Geoffrey the Giraffe Happy at Last, Toys R Us, Moreno Valley

The client decided to lease an open space in an existing outdoor mall. It was March and the store was to open for Christmas season, which begins October 1.

In addition to the normal build out and a fire sprinkler and HVAC upgrade, the client wanted to add the roof tower with the Geoffrey the Giraffe logo typical to Toys R Us. This necessitated strengthening the roof to handle the additional loads. The roof was constructed with steel joists, a very economical proprietary manufactured product common throughout the country.

Rainy Season Roof Collapse: Import Warehouse, Fontana, CA

It was 3:00 in the afternoon on a Monday, New Year’s eve, one of those years where it becomes essentially a 4 day weekend. “Thank God we got you. Our client’s forklift driver was screwing around, sheared the base plate bolts right off and took the column completely out. The roof is sagging 8 feet and you can see the sky from the inside.”

Fast, Faster, Fastest Tracked: Xerox, Monrovia

The client was sitting in our conference room, waiting, which is the reverse of how it usually goes.

He was in trouble.
